| The Artist Speaks… “Growing up in Wichita Kansas, home of McConnell Air Force Base, Boeing, Beechcraft, and Lear Jet corporations, I was surrounded by the culture of flight. Planes, civilian and military, were designed and built and flown daily overhead. In the early 1980’s, I was an illustrator/graphic designer for Bendix Aviation in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and my love for aviation grew by leaps and bounds. It was expressed in watercolor as I rendered flying scenes of my favorite planes: the Stearman, Bendix racers, British aircraft, and those old radial engines that powered many of them. “I could have produced these aircraft paintings in other mediums, but watercolor was the one that gave me the freedom to work loosely in some areas and very tight in others. Watercolor has a translucent feel, a loose flowing of color, but, oppositely, also allows me to work in the very tight detail to accomplish the effect I desire.” Copyright © 2005 LR Impressions.
