In addition to the artist's signature, each print is co-autographed by Col. C.E. "Bud" Anderson
(USAF Ret.) 16.25 aerial victories. Each of the 50 Artist's Proofs is also signed by three aces from
the 357th FG: Brig General Tom Hayes, Jr. USAF (Ret.) 8.5 victories, Capt. W.R. "O'Bee" Obrien
USAF (Ret.) 5 victories; and Major Richard A. Peterson USAF (Ret.) 15.5 victories.
The Painting: Called "Andy" by his pilot buddies Capt. Anderson with the 363rd Fighter Squadron,
357th Fighter Group, led Cement Squadron on 29 June 1944 where just southwest of Leipzig,
Germany he scored three Fw l90's.
After confirmation on #1 victory, he saw Fw #2 heading for the clouds and pursued, attacking from
the rear closing to 150 yards getting quite a few hits all over. The canopy flew off and the pilot
started to climb out as Anderson flew along side his Luftwaffe opponent. This dramatic scene is
skillfully captured in Jerry Crandall's painting of Old Crow. This day, Capt. Anderson would claim a
total of three Fw 190's expiring 1195 rounds.
The Aircraft, P-51B-15-NA, serial No. 4324823. This was the aircraft in which "Bud" Anderson
achieved most of his victories. It was painted in the standard factory Olive Drab and neutral Gray.
The D-Day stripes were applied by brush painting on the 5th of June in accordance with the order.
Note the ragged edges around the '6' and the 'S'. The ground crew kept the aircraft in excellent
condition.
