hit about six times . . . got our number 3 engine, number 1 fuel cell and
the case of
assembly flares stored in the companion way . . . the P-51was the
prettiest thing I had

34th Bombardment Group (Heavy)
Station No. 156 Mendlesham A/F, Suffolk England
Campaigns: Antisubmarine, American Theater Air Offensive- Europe,
Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes- Alsace, Central Europe.
The 34th Bomb group was asssigned to the Eight Airforce April 1944 thru
July 1945. The 34th Bomb group started with the B-24 Liberator but began
converting to the B-17 Flying Fortress in Late 1944. High Visibility markings
as see in this painting began appearing on the aircraft in June 1944. The
34th had the forward 1/3 of the tail surfaces painted red and the remainder
painted white or left natural metal finish. The 34th Bomb group did also use
on the B-17's a 24" yellow nose stripe.
