DeNardo, Domenic
Aviation artist Domenic DeNardo has been fascinated with airplanes since he was a child growing
up in Providence, RI. During WWII, he was obsessed with drawing warplanes that flew from nearby
airfields, such as F4U Corsairs and P-47 Thunderbolts. His interest became more fully realized years
later when he earned his private pilot's license and subsequently purchased the first of five
airplanes that he would own.
Domenic received his formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design. He also studied
engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He was first employed in engineering and product
design at the Brown and Sharpe Mfg. Co. However, after meeting people in the advertising world,
Domenic began accepting freelance art assignments which soon became his career choice. It was
also the time that he began to pursue his interest in aviation art. His widely published paintings have
received numerous awards including the Par Excellence award from the EAA Aviation Art
Competition 2001; the Best of Show Award from SimuFlite/ Flying Magazine Horizons of Flight
competition, Dallas-Ft. Worth,2005; the "Best of the Best" from Aviation Week and Space
Technology Aerospace art competition for his print "No Quarry Today"; Artflight 2003 Award from
Canada Aviation Museum, Ottawa. In Addition, in 2004, his aviation art was among a selection of the
finest works to be exhibited at the U.S. Air Force Museum's Hall of Honor in Dayton, Ohio.
Domenic DeNardo is an Artist Fellow and board member of the American Society of Aviation Artists.
