"Pressing West At Frisco"

Two F-15E Strike Eagles of the 336th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron "Rocketeers" turn
west over the FRISCO reporting point during an Operation Iraqi Freedom combat mission
on 8th April 2003. The lead jet, callsign Shogun 53, flown by Capt. Randy "Hacker" Haskin
and Capt Ernesto "Pong" Divittorio, was named Shangri-La II in honor of Capt. Don Gentile
and his famous WWII P-51B Mustang. The second F-15, Back for More - Mad Duck IV,
flown by Capt. Dan "Stinger" King and Maj. Jesse "Junior" Voisin, was named after a WWII
F4U Corsair maintained by the grandfather of the F-15E nose artist.
Interestingly, the date is significant because on 8 April 1944 Capt. Gentile got his last three
kills while flying the original Shangri-La. Gentile earned the Distinguished Service Cross
(now Air Force Cross) on that mission, and the artist depicted part of the action in his
painting, One-Man Air Force.
FRISCO was an OIF reporting point. The procedure to fly up the Arabian Gulf, thru Kuwait,
and into Iraq was called the "Ocean Parkway". There were assigned altitudes for inbound
and outbound aircraft to fly, as well as named reporting points that, when passed, had to
be reported on the radio to the controlling agency (Red Crown, Absolut, etc.).
This painting is available in a limited edition of 200 high-quality Giclee prints on "White Smooth"
Legion Digital Rag 300 gsm (slightly heavier than 100 lb. paper) 100% Cotton watercolor paper.
Giclee digital printmaking technology results in the closest reproduction you can get to the
original work in color value, tone and saturation, and the soft texture of the watercolor paper
adds the "high-end" look and feel to the piece. The inks and paper are both archival quality. The
overall print size is 16.75 x 26, with an image size of 12.75 x 23.5. All prints are signed and
numbered by the artist. You may have one or two pencil remarques added to your print (see both
options below). "Remarques" are small pencil sketches which are hand-drawn on your print by
the artist. If ordering only one remarque, please let me know which one you want.
The image only (no white borders or text) is also available in a limited edition of 50 Canvas
Giclees each signed and numbered by the artist. The canvas image is a large 18 x 32. Remarques
are not available with the canvas edition. The image is printed on real artist's canvas (the surface
appears to my eye to be identical to "Portrait Smooth" grade), and is shipped to you rolled The
result is the highest "level" of reproduction possible for an oil painting. The canvas comes with
adequate border for stretching on wood stretcher bars, or the image area may be dry-mounted or
glued on panel. The final "look", once framed, is strikingly similar to an original painting. Indeed,
most of your guests or clients will be hard pressed to tell the difference without sticking their
noses right up to the canvas. You frame a Canvas Giclee just like an original oil on canvas - no
glass is needed.
All prints are issued with a matching signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity that
features the artwork image.
