

| Flying Officer John Rauth of the 325th FG's, 319th Sqdn. is shot down on a strafing mission, and later taken captive by the Italian Army. Several hours later, with elements of the 82nd Airborne advancing on their position, the Italians surrender to the young American pilot. Shot down by lunchtime, John Rauth was a prisoner of war for a just several hours before he became the captor of one Lt. Colonel, one Major, four Lieutenants, 27 enlisted men and their armaments. |
