|
A radar equipped Aichi E13A, Navy Type "O"
reconnaissance seaplane, lands near its heavy cruiser after
returning from an afternoon patrol. Code named "Jake" by
the Allies, the E13A was an effective scout for the Imperial
Japanese Navy throughout the entire war, as it served in
greater numbers than any other Japanese floatplane during
the conflict. Operating off of the catapult systems of cruisers
and battleships, the E13As had ranges of over 1,600 miles,
which made them ideal for scouting ahead of the surface
force. The depth charge slung under the fuselage suggests
that this patrol was an anti-submarine mission
