Aviation Artist
Wade Meyers
When his family moved to Bossier City, Louisiana from North Carolina
when he was ten years old, Wade Meyers immediately began spending
most of his youthful idle time sitting in a big field near his house watching
the comings and goings of military aircraft from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana,
which was adjacent to his neighborhood. He would then race home and
build models of the aircraft he saw.

In 1980, Wade joined the volunteer staff of Barksdale's 8th Air Force
Museum, which had only a B-17 and B-24 at the time. He ultimately spent 17
great years involved in helping the museum to grow. Wade started flying
lessons in high school, and was later a Flight Instructor for 10 years.  He
currently holds a Commercial Pilot certificate with Instrument rating and
continues to enjoy flying at every opportunity.  Wade has logged stick time
in aircraft ranging from Cessna 150s to the sleek supersonic Northrop
AT-38C Talon.

After beginning with a line of prints done in pencil, Wade shifted his
emphasis to color work in 1997. He has had formal art training on the
college level, and has studied with well-known aviation artist Keith Ferris.
Though his early color work was in acrylics, he's since made the switch to
oils.  Wade spends many hours researching and composing his pictures,
often using Descriptive Geometry for his aircraft and airfield perspectives.
He works out his backgrounds after looking through books to get a "feel"
for the operating environment.

Wade says that his goals in art parallel those in his flying: "I'm always
striving to learn more; to hone my skills and get better. It's a lifelong
process."  He considers Norman Rockwell, Robert Taylor, Keith Ferris,
William S. Phillips and Wilson Hurley as his greatest artistic influences.
Rockwell's meticulous preparation and technique, the timeless majesty of
Taylor's aviation and maritime canvases, the mastery of light shown by
Keith Ferris and the unparalled use of color by Bill Phillips and Wilson
Hurley are elements Wade strives to emulate while adding his own
signature style.  Wade says that trying to reach these lofty goals will keep
him interested in painting for a very long time!

Wade graduated with a B.A. in History from LSU in Shreveport (Class of
1987), and later attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston for a year
and a half while undergoing his Commercial and Instrument flight training.
Wade's original artwork and prints are held in private collections all over
the world.  He is an Artist member of the American Society of Aviation
Artists, and also holds memberships in the League of World War I Aviation
Historians, the 8th Air Force Historical Society, and the Association of the
4th Fighter Group.  He has authored magazine articles and contributed to
numerous other articles and books.  His technical manual, "Perspective
Projection by Descriptive Geometry - A Manual for the Artist" remains
popular with artists.

Wade's hobbies basically revolve around flying, writing, and photography.
For the latter passion, his current weapon of choice is a Canon EOS 20D
Digital SLR.  All this and more happens in, around and over Hoover,
Alabama, where Wade resides with his wife Maria and their children Audrey,
Anna, Robert, and Nicolas.
